A Grand Opening Preview & Benefit Gala for Gray Area Foundation for the Arts
The evening before we open the doors of our new digital arts center to the public, Gray Area Foundation for the Arts (GAFFTA) cordially invites you to join us for a special limited-capacity Grand Opening celebration and an exclusive artist-hosted preview of our inaugural exhibition: OPEN.
GALVANZE will be a special evening commemorating GAFFTA’s arrival as San Francisco’s first and only cultural center dedicated to the emerging field of digital art and the cornerstone of The City’s emerging Tenderloin Arts District.
gal·va·nize (gal-və-ˌnīz)
Verb
1. to arouse to awareness or action;
2. to cover (metal) with a protective coating;
3. to stimulate by an electric current
GAFFTA’s successful transformation of an abandoned adult theater into a state-of-the-art gallery space, studio facility and multimedia community center marks a milestone in the revitalization of the Tenderloin into a vibrant art district while providing a much needed production and exhibition center for the Bay Area digital and progressive arts communities.
Purchasing a ticket to GALVANIZE gives you the opportunity to be the very first to experience our inspiring media arts facility and our inaugural exhibition, OPEN, featuring the works of three pioneers in the field of digital art: C.E.B. Reas, Camille Utterback and Stamen Design.

The support from our community is essential toward the success of GAFFTA and the renewal of the Tenderloin. This very special, one time engagement is an opportunity to be at the ground-floor of supporting San Francisco’s next great cultural institution and be a stakeholder in a new chapter in The City’s legacy of creative and civic leadership.
Help realize our mission of building social consciousness through digital culture by joining us for an unforgettable evening of art, technology, community and the excitement of the possibilities ahead.
A portion of your ticket purchase is tax-deductible and all proceeds will be directly invested in GAFFTA’s exhibitions, programs, events and infrastructure.
Program
The evening’s program will begin with a cocktail reception and heavy hors d’oeuvres followed by a series of brief remarks by GAFFTA’s founders and Mayor Gavin Newsom, culminating with artist-led tours of their works and installations throughout the gallery.
Reception: 6:30pm – 7:30pm
Remarks by San Francisco City Officials: 7:35pm – 7:45pm
Remarks by GAFFTA Co-Founders Josette Melchor & Peter Hirshberg: 7:50pm – 8:10pm
Artist Hosted Exhibition Preview: 8:15pm – 9:00pm
(Following the evening’s activities, all GALVANIZE guests are invited to stay for the inaugural edition of GAFFTAhours, our series of nighttime exhibition preview parties featuring live music from local DJs and a hosted bar)
