• Josette Melchor founded Gray Area Gallery producing events in Los Angeles and San Francisco through 2008.
• Recombinant Media Labs completes its SOMA facility.

2007

• Gray Area was invited by NOMNIC to tour the Tenderloin to move locations. Introduced to Jack Sumski and Robert Bridwell of Davis Realty Co. begin discussions on 55 Taylor St.

2008

• April: Gray Area Beacon was born with Peter Hirshberg focused on Art and Technology.
• April: Recombinant Media Labs closes it’s SOMA facility.
• August: RML Founder and Director Naut Humon meets Josette Melchor.
• September: GAFFTA was formed.

2009

• July: 55 Taylor Construction finishes.
• October: GAFFTA opens 55 Taylor.
